From the wheelhouse:
Where to start! What an amazing day on the water for our international guests and the last day for the kids with Academic Treks. No foglots of sunshine and very calm seas. Five different humpback whales viewed today and one other reported in the area. There was amazing interaction with 'Chunky' (BCX0081), her calf from this year and over 200 Pacific white-sided dolphins
BCX1188 now nicknamed 'Jigger' was breaching, pec slaps and lots of surface time. Lots of eagles in the area today and we saw the small chick at the Plumper Island eagles nest. Black oyster catchers as well as lots of other seabirds.
Captain Wayne's quote of the day:
"Without fear, there is no courage." Anon.

We were privileged to be on the Lukwa on 6/29/08 with Cptn Wayne and Jackie. We saw a humpback whale - what an awesome sight!! We also saw the wake of his full breach (while looking at the porpoises, right Jackie????hahahah) but we couldn't have been more thrilled, or so we thought - until we were surrounded by about 200 dolphins at play. I still get goosebumps re-living the experience. I hope we get an opportunity to make the trip up-Island again later in the summer. We will be out on the water again but only if Captain Wayne and Jackie are available to take us - you simply MADE our trip and we learned so much. We came home with an all-new purpose to do our part, however small, to ensure our "ocean friends" continue to thrive and return to our beautiful coastal waters. So you see??? Old Dogs can learn new tricks......thank you for a wonderful experience. I could say it was an experience of a lifetime....but won't because WE'LL BE BACK!!
Best regards,
Arlene King (The Kokanee Lady) and Wayne Brown
