From the Wheelhouse:
What an exciting day on the water today! The first sun in many days and lots of resident killer whales and then this afternoon transient (mammal eaters) killer whales. Our guests were thrilled to see the A12's and the I11's today. Resting lines, traveling, breaches, tail slaps, foraging and amazing vocalizations were observed by all.
This afternoon we got the report of transient killer whales who were grouped up after they had encountered and managed to hunt down a Steller sea lion. There were seven transients and thanks to MacKay Whale Watching for the ID of T72 (male) and to Jared Towers for the ID of T34. After all of the excitement we went to look at the 60 plus Steller sea lions on the rocks (who didn't seem to miss one of their own), lots of harbour seals and
bow-riding Dall's porpoise.
We also saw one unidentified humpback whale and a good variety of sea birds. All in all a fabulous day!
